Dispatcher (EMS and Mobile Health Coordination)

  • Responsibilities:

    • Receives and prioritizes calls from the 911 Center, Fire, Police, Medical or EMS Agency; determines the nature of the problem; enters information into a CAD System verifying the location and determining the appropriate responder.
    • Dispatches personnel and equipment to the scene of emergencies and other medical calls while maintaining radio contact.This is done while continuously monitoring incoming phone and radio calls, and updating CAD information to determine units available and to maintain accurate call reporting.
    • Broadcasts orders to units in vicinity to relay instructions, information, or questions from other units; determines type and nature of personnel and equipment needed; maintains verbal contact for the purpose of updating in-progress calls and continually updates responding units.
    • Maintains a log of all radio transmissions as to time, duration, and message; relays general information to the public and refers callers to proper offices; performs follow-up on dispatches.
    • Performs call-taker duties consisting of receiving detailed information from medical facilities and other emergency agencies requesting ambulance service, entering the information into the CAD system, processing the information, and giving any applicable instructions to the crews.
    • Uses a wide variety of resources to dispatch calls and aid crews in the field; such as city and telephone directories, maps, street location guides, and various other paper and online resources.
    • Coordinates clinical appointments for Mobile Health Programs and deploys program resources appropriately.

    Qualifications:

    • Good computer skills including but not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Word©, Excel©, and Outlook©.
    • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
    • High School Diploma or acceptable equivalent.
    • Able to read maps with competence, multi-task, and demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.
    • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to think independently.
    • Current Washington State EMT Certificate or equivalent training and experience preferred.
    • Prior dispatch experience or training preferred.
