    Job Description

    Job Overview:

    Under the direction of the Immigration Program Manager, the Immigration Specialist will primarily be responsible for leading the family reunification program, volunteer supervision, outreach coordination, and administrative support.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Lead the Family Reunification Program; including outreaching to the community, screening possible applicants, completing AOR applications and submitting them through the IRIS system, work closely with HQ on complex cases;
    • Supervise the department’s AmeriCorps member (when applicable ) and Immigration Assistant
    • Lead all department outreach activities, including conducting Know Your Right presentations;
    • Work closely with the Immigration Department to determine volunteer needs;
    • Recruit, manage, and supervise department volunteers, including leading volunteer trainings and orientations;
    • Assist clients with case status updates and communicate USCIS appointment notice information to clients;
    • Update case files and department database;
    • Create case files and filing;
    • Manage front desk administrative duties; including scheduling clients for immigration legal service appointments and sorting department mail;
    • Pursue Department of Justice accreditation by successfully completing all vital training;

    Job Requirements:

    • Undergraduate degree in relevant field preferred; or equivalent years of work-related experience;
    • Experience serving immigration clients required;
    • Experience working with a non-profit or non-governmental organization; preferably in a casework or social services setting;
    • Possess excellent communication skills both oral and written;
    • Ability to work with clients who speak limited English;
    • Be creative and have the ability to work independently without close supervision;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with partners and colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment;
    • Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines;
    • Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment;
    • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is required (Dari/Pashto, Arabic, Ukrainian)

    Working Environment:

    • Standard, professional office environment, including required in-office days and some 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above-outlined responsibilities. Office working environment is subject to change based on organization/business needs.
    • Requires work at both City Heights and El Cajon offices.
    • Requires evening work, with a possibility of weekends.
    • San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
