Hyperbaric Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. Documents required treatment details including equipment settings, treatment duration, and patient response. Being a Hyperbaric Technician operates hyperbaric chamber and other hyperbaric support systems in accordance to all applicable safety standards and regulations. Performs cleaning of chamber and equipment according to infection control policies. Additionally, Hyperbaric Technician performs equipment checks and system maintenance. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy under the direction of the Hyperbaric Technical Director, physician, and technologists. Performs duties under the physiologic stresses of the hyperbaric environment. The technician monitors patients before, during and after hyperbaric therapy, and is responsible for the safe operation of the hyperbaric chamber. Assists in the delivery of patient care
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Monitors patients before, during, and after treatment for adverse reactions such as hypoglycemia, hypertension, oxygen toxicity, barotrauma, fire in the chamber, or pneumothorax due to pressure changes.
2. Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment, and associated materials as well as maintains the cleanliness of the hyperbaric chamber system.
3. Maintains and ensures the safety of the patient, hyperbaric facility, and all associated systems and equipment according to departmental and safety guidelines.
4. Documents in the patient record, operating, safety, and maintenance logs in accordance with departmental and regulatory policy and procedures.
5. Performs preventative and any other required routine maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber as directed by the Technical and Safety Director.
6. Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives related to cost containment, process improvement and quality assurance.
7. Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory of all departmental supplies.
8. Participates in department in-service education programs on hyperbaric medicine-related topics.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A. Education / Training:
· High school diploma required.
· Must be a registered Paramedic, EMT, Respiratory Therapist, Military Corpsman, or other allied health professional as indicated by the NBDHMT. Board Certification in Hyperbaric Medicine is preferred.
B. Work Experience:
· 0-3 years’ experience.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
· Graduation from a formal training program, as applicable, allowing licensure in one of the fields listed above. One year of clinical hyperbaric systems or diving operations is preferred. It is recommended that the employee attend a 40 hour hyperbaric course approved by the NBDHMT.
D. Other Qualifications:
· Requires basic to intermediate knowledge of hyperbaric operations and safety procedures, good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions independently.
