Hyperbaric Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. Documents required treatment details including equipment settings, treatment duration, and patient response. Being a Hyperbaric Technician operates hyperbaric chamber and other hyperbaric support systems in accordance to all applicable safety standards and regulations. Performs cleaning of chamber and equipment according to infection control policies. Additionally, Hyperbaric Technician performs equipment checks and system maintenance. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Hyperbaric Technician works under moderate supervision. Education/Certification: High School graduate or equivalent. Associate’s degree or higher in a science related field. Must have basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or medical Licensure (EMT-P, CAN, LPN, RN, FNP, PA, MD, DO). Preferred to be a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN).
Experience: One year patient care experience, one year hyperbaric experience, diving/medical or health care facility.
Equipment/Technical: Ability to operate all necessary hyperbaric equipment. Ability to successfully and competently utilize computer software for operation of department.
Language/Communication: Ability to encourage group processes. Also able to be understood easily.
Mathematical Skills: Moderate to above average.
Mental Capabilities: Must have the ability to concentrate for long periods of time in order to complete assigned tasks, with a better than average attention span in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions. Has the ability to understand input from the director concerning errors and instructions.
Interpersonal: Ability to encourage group process and foster growth in others.
Performance: Must be able to handle conflict issues with both patients and staff.
