Hyperbaric Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. Documents required treatment details including equipment settings, treatment duration, and patient response. Being a Hyperbaric Technician operates hyperbaric chamber and other hyperbaric support systems in accordance to all applicable safety standards and regulations. Performs cleaning of chamber and equipment according to infection control policies. Additionally, Hyperbaric Technician performs equipment checks and system maintenance. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Hyperbaric Technician works under moderate supervision. Description
JOB SUMMARY- To safely care for patients during and after hyperbaric treatments by alternately performing duties of outside attendant, inside attendant, as well as console operator using a multi-place hyperbaric chamber.
- Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
- Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
- Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
- Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
- Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
- Must have advanced mechanical skills to troubleshoot chamber problems and complete preventative maintenance.
- Must be able to clear ears and adjust to pressure changes that are similar to pressure changes experienced during flying.
- General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
- May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
- May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
- May be scheduled as needed including overtime
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS- Vocational/Technical Degree in EMT, Dive Medic, LPN or 2 year/Associate Degree in Paramedic, RN, Respiratory Therapist (Required)
- 2 - 3 years Hyperbaric or acute care setting (Required)
- 1 - 2 years Wound care or procedure based skills. (Preferred)
- 1 - 2 years Accrediting and regulatory agencies, such as NFPA, UHMS, and Joint Commission. (Preferred)
- Required Certifications/Licensures: Current Licensure is accordance with education; Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred Certifications/Licensures: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Certified Hyperbaric Technician
