Hydraulic Technician troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, reconditions, and services all hydraulic machines, systems, and components. Communicates findings and recommendations to customer and management. Being a Hydraulic Technician must be proficient in basic cylinder assembly and teardown skills. Typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Hydraulic Technician typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Hydraulic Technician possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.   • Job Description for Lead Shop Technician
    Primary Duties for a repair job:
    • Each job assigned must be completely torn down to ensure a complete inspection of units in for repair.
    • All parts used, labor time, machine work, freight charges, model numbers, and miscellaneous comments are to be legibly written down on the work order for all repairs.
    • Make sure that all loose parts associated with this job all have tags on them: I.E., clevises, pins, hoses, etc.
    • When a job is finished all parts are to be wired to component or tagged in the case of larger jobs.
    • All jobs should be quoted for repair with: a repair quotes, a new part quotes, all quotes must include an estimated completion/arrival date
    • In some cases, the customer will be willing to approve the higher quote if the lead time on one is longer than they are willing to wait.
    • If the unit is beyond repair there is no need to look up all parts. A generic list of the damaged items will be enough to prove the unit is destroyed.
    • At this point, call the customer with diagnostic report from the written work order or the technician who performed the initial tear down. Providing price and availability for a new unit.
    • When parts are pulled from inventory for a repair job you must record all parts pulled on the original work order: This is to ensure a correct inventory as well as what is to be billed to the customer.
    • All messes created during the repair must be cleaned up after the job has been put away but before punching out on the work order. This process should keep the shop in a clean and organized condition.
    • Any and all oil spills must be cleaned up immediately upon discovery.
    • It is the responsibility of the person working on a job to keep the boards in the shop office up to date as to what stage each job is in: This is to ensure everyone within GCH is informed as to what stage a job is at, always. It is especially important that when all jobs are finished, they are to be erased from the work board and the customer is contacted.
    • Any customers who come through the back door into the shop must be acknowledged and helped immediately.
    • If they are dropping off a repair, a work order must be entirely filled out upon receipt of the job.
    • This must also include a description of the item, part number of the item (if available), and why the unit was brought in.
    • If the person who drops off the repair doesn’t know what the problem is, it is your responsibly to get the name & number of the person who has this information and call them before writing the job on the work board.
    • Make sure the item is placed up on a shelf or low bench and is tagged with the correlating work order number.
    • All parts received by UPS or truck line and delivered to the shop for a job will be checked in by the shipping department or next available shop personnel.
    • At this time the parts are compared to the old parts.
    • If they are the correct parts, they are to be placed in the gray tub on the in process shelf.
    • If parts are wrong, you must immediately double check the part number you ordered to make sure it is correct and then get with the purchasing department to get the correct parts ordered in a timely manner.
    • Closing of the shop: It is the responsibility of the shop technicians to make sure the shop is securely locked up before leaving for the day, this entails that: All lights are turned off, All vehicles that are small enough are brought inside the shop, The larger vehicles that aren’t in the shop are locked up or disabled to help eliminate vandalism, All gates, doors and window leading to the shop are properly shut and locked
    Quoting of a Job:
    • All job margins will be at a 40% markup without exceeding list price.
    • It is the responsibility of the shop foreman to keep track and compare the estimated job time to the actual time spent on the job, to ensure quality and efficiency.
    • Time sheets with a detailed comparison of quoted time vs. actual time taken are to be turned in to a supervisor for daily review.
    • Incentives will be rewarded based on efficiency percentages as well as profit margins.
    • Incentives will be processed through the supervisor’s provision.
    • The goal of GCH is to have answers to the customer within a 24-hour time frame. All customers are to be contacted on a regular basis in ensure quality customer relations and minimize liability to GCH

    Secondary Duties:
    • It is the responsibility of the shop techs to constantly monitor the complete shop for any items out of place
      • I.E., parts, tools, paperwork, jobs that have appeared that are not tagged, misc. inventory items not used on job or taken from parts dept. and not returned, or paperwork left unattended by anyone.
    • It is also the responsibility of the shop technicians to make sure that anything we run out of in the shop such as paint, cleaning agents, misc. fasteners, power punch, etc. is to be brought to the attention of the purchasing agent by way of a requisition form.
