Transitional Housing Program Manager

  • Job Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Housing, the Transitional Housing Program Manager is responsible for the administration and oversight of the assigned Urban Peak transitional housing programs. This position oversees a team of employees responsible for housing youth experiencing homelessness in Urban Peak owned housing, or housing throughout the community. The Transitional Housing Program Manager is responsible for the supervision of assigned case managers, Housing Supervisors, , and housing life skills managers. This position oversees assigned housing subsidies, including budgets, referrals, data entry, and outcomes. This may include responding to emergency situations, de-escalation, crisis intervention, and supporting employees through these situations. Relationship building and providing sound case management with youth is the #1 priority for the team supervised by this position. Duties include supporting employees with case management to help youth build the best plan to work toward exiting housing successfully. Additionally, this position will ensure compliance with all policies, grants, and best practices to ensure that youth receive the best possible care and services possible. 
     
    This position will ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at Urban Peak are trauma informed and emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff.
     
    Who You Are:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a human services or a related field and three (3) years’ related work experience and two (2) years’ supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Master’s degree in education, business, communication or a related field and a minimum two (2) years’ of experiences working with youth
    • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve encouraged but not required
    • Experience with youth experiencing homelessness and/or residential supervision preferred
    • Experience with case management and supervising other case managers is preferred
    • Ability to connect and work effectively with a diverse youth population
    • The ability to connect well, work effectively and communicate in a culturally responsive manner with a diverse youth population
    • An understanding of trauma informed interactions and/or a willingness to learn and adopt this approach
    • Ability and desire to work within a crisis intervention agency
    • Computer proficient and possess experience of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
    • Understanding of the provision of and commitment to trauma informed care and positive youth development
    • Ability to be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy to transport youth using an Urban Peak vehicle and an approved personal vehicle
    • Ability to use second language in written and verbal communication desired (Spanish, Vietnamese, ASL)
    • Ability to pass both federal and state background checks and a pre-employment TB screening

    What You Will Do:
    Program Oversight
    • Plan and coordinate new hire training
    • Document relevant and significant events that occur during the shift in the Communication Log
    • Plan and facilitate staff meetings 
    • Oversee transitional housing grants including attending regularly scheduled grant meetings, over see budgets, referrals, data entry, and outcomes in accordance with each grant’s requirements
    • Manage waiting list for transitional housing programs and serve as point of contact for One Home referrals
    • Update employee and youth housing handbooks to ensure accuracy as necessary
    • Provide appropriate emergency interventions, as needed, and/or guide staff in providing such intervention
    • Work directly with youth, as needed, to support their case plans and assist them in managing relationships/behavior
    • Work closely with other staff and agency programs to coordinate activities, providing clear and effective communication with other staff regarding clients
    • Provide crisis intervention, phone counseling and support as necessary
    • Provide programming that supports the building of healthy relationships
     Quality Assurance:
    • In conjunction with the Director of Housing maintain compliance with all housing and grant requirements, participate in audits and monitoring visits
    • Responsible for HMIS and Salesforce completeness and quality assurance of electronic and hard copy youth files
    • Ensure accurate program intakes and recording of client services
    Supervision:

    • Effectively supervises and manages direct reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices under direction of Senior Leadership, addressing complaints and resolving problems
    • Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner.  Evaluates performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and contributions in attaining objectives
    • Helps set the tone of the department to ensure morale, teamwork, and that the positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.
    • Regularly schedules department and staff 1:1 meetings to provide leadership, development, and a forum for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals
    • Manage program and grant budgets and report monthly variances to supervisor and Director of Finance

    Who We Are:

    Founded in 1988, Urban Peak is the only non-profit organization in Denver that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 15 through 24 experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Our goal is to meet youth where they are and to provide them with the assistance and support, they need to become self-sufficient or obtain the necessary services they need to exit a life on the streets.
     
    Urban Peak provides numerous programs and services that are founded on the principles of trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development to assist youth in reaching their potential and living a successful life off the streets. Services include street outreach, a 40-bed shelter for youth ages 15 through 20, a daytime drop-in center, supportive housing, education and employment services, case management, life skills courses, behavioral health evaluations, meals and more. The youth served at the shelter come from a variety of backgrounds, and we strive to be a safe community for all youth, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, class, educational background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability status.
