Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team. As a Histology Technician, you will play a crucial role in the laboratory by preparing and processing tissue samples for microscopic examination. Your attention to detail and knowledge of anatomy and physiology will be essential in accurately identifying abnormal cells and assisting in the diagnosis of diseases.
Duties:
- Perform specimen collection processing, including embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue samples onto slides
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and staining machines
- Prepare reagents and solutions used in histological procedures
- Maintain accurate records of specimens processed and results obtained
- Adhere to strict quality control and safety protocols to ensure accurate and reliable test results
- Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of results
- Assist in the training and supervision of histology assistants or other laboratory personnel
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year experience working as a Histology Technician in a clinical laboratory or research laboratory setting
- Proficiency in performing histological techniques such as tissue embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting
- In-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and histological principles
- Experience with specimen collection processing, including accessioning, labeling, and tracking specimens
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately identify abnormal cells or tissue structures
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) for data entry and result reporting
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals
