Histology Technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures and pathologist review. Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. Being a Histology Technician maintains accurate tissue and slide records. Cleans and maintains instruments and work areas. Additionally, Histology Technician complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires an associate degree in biology, related science, or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Busy medical office/physician practice/surgery center seeking histology technician.
We are looking for a highly motivated person willing to learn how to do histology laboratory work. The applicant has to be a team player with a positive attitude, and be willing to learn. Hours for this position could vary based on workload in the laboratory. Certification a plus!
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to in the Histology Laboratory:
Working towards an Assoc. degree in medical laboratory technology, chemical sciences or biological sciences OR
60 college hours including 24 hours of medical laboratory technology OR 24 hours of sciences that include 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology and 12 hours of chemistry/biology/medical laboratory technology in any combination.
