Histology Technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures and pathologist review. Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. Being a Histology Technician maintains accurate tissue and slide records. Cleans and maintains instruments and work areas. Additionally, Histology Technician complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires an associate degree in biology, related science, or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. EDUCATION
Baccalaureate Degree From A Regionally Accredited College/University With A Combination Of 30 Semester Hours (45 Quarter Hours) Of Biology And Chemistry (Must Include Credit Hours In Both), And Successful Completion Of A Naacls Accredited Histotechnician Or Histotechnology Program Within The Last Five Years. Completion Of Naacls Accredited Program Waived With Current Htl(Ascp) Certification.
EXPERIENCE
At Least Three Years Of Experience In Histological Techniques Preferred.
LICENSURE
American Society Of Clinical Pathologists (Htl-Ascp) Preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Clear Written And Verbal Communication Skills Required.
