The Iowa DOT is looking for road heroes and snow fighters to join our team! As our newest Highway Technician Associate, you ll spend your days outside doing whatever it takes to make Iowa highways safer while fulfilling our Mission - Making Lives Better Through Transportation. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the IDOT s Core Values: Safety First, People Matter, Customer Focused, Servant Leadership, and Integrity Without Exception alongside your IDOT teammates. One day you ll be repairing pavement, the next you might be repairing guardrail or installing signs. No two days are exactly alike.

While a CDL permit is required upon hire, you must have your Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL within 5 months following your appointment. CDL Training for Iowa DOT employees is provided!! Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not already possess a Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL for positions that require it. Those eligible will receive both hands-on Behind-the-Wheel Range and Road training, with web-based Theory training, to fulfill required state and federal regulations.

Location: Storm Lake Maintenance Garage - Within five (5) months, employees are required to reside within 45 minutes driving time, during normal conditions, from assigned work location.

Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, hours may vary and subject to call 24 hours a day during emergency and / or weather conditions; occasional overnight travel

Pay Range: $22.50 to $27.53 an hour

Rain or shine, you ll keep the roads safe by:
Supporting IDOT in day-to-day activities including, but not limited to:

• mowing / cutting brush
• disposing of litter and debris
• repairing roadside waterways
• operating snow equipment
• grading / paving projects
• assisting paint / bridge crews
• participating in traffic control for Maintenance activities
• performing routine maintenance and service of DOT equipment and vehicles
• using DOT technical devices and software applications

May be required to obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications as needed
