Highway Patrol patrols assigned geographic area and makes note of unusual or suspicious events. Resolves disputes and enforces traffic laws. Being a Highway Patrol may require a bachelor's degree in a related area and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Must meet physical and personal requirements. Additionally, Highway Patrol has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. The is a full time position with 40 hours per week & the possibility of overtime.
Under the direct supervision of the Field Superintendent, maintains municipal and rural roads and rights-of-ways in safe conditions. Ability to cut brush, erect signs, drive tandem axle trucks and perform other labor functions as needed.
Drives truck and/or equipment to provide road maintenance operations.
Checks equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status: Performs routine vehicle maintenance checks daily.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, signs, barricades, cones, etc.
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned, after completing “Traffic Regulator Training.”
May erect and repair guard rails, highway markers, etc. utilizing hand tools, and power tools.
Manually patches asphalt and seal coat roads.
Washes and cleans equipment at District Garages.
Sweeps and maintains vehicle storage areas.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
Hard hats, safety vests, gloves, safety eyewear, etc. will be supplied by the Delta County Road Commission and worn at all times.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
High School education, GED, or equivalent education preparation, ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively, ability to work satisfactorily with other employees, and ability to work extended hours.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Valid Michigan CDL Operators License.
