Position SummaryAs a Brick Mason, you will be responsible for the precise and efficient installation of brick, stone, and other masonry materials to create durable and visually appealing structures on our campus in Williamsburg, VA.
Conditions of Employment- This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the university is officially closed and is subject to overtime.
- Incumbent will be required to participate in the Facilities Management on-call program.
- This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. This position may require overtime to include scheduled and unscheduled, nights and weekends, and or holidays.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work outside under variable weather conditions.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and complete required W&M van training.

Required Qualifications- Knowledge of principles of masonry construction including brick, cement block, clay tile, and ceramic tile at the journeyman level.
- Knowledge of materials utilized in the repair, preservation, and renovations such as waterproofing, caulking, joint compounds, etc.
- Must be able to interpret construction specifications and drawings and conduct research using vendor submittals.
- Familiarity with principals of related crafts: roofing, concrete placement, ceramic, and quarry tile setting.
- Considerable knowledge of general maintenance procedures.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills for working effectively with faculty, staff, architects/engineers, vendors, and contractors.
- Valid Driver’s License and minimum (2) driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Substantial journeyman level masonry experience.
- Earthmoving equipment experience and certification.
