Help Desk Support, Sr. responds to end-user requests for technical assistance by phone, email, or ticketing system. Troubleshoots and resolves basic computer, application, system, device, access, or performance issues. Being a Help Desk Support, Sr. uses established processes and procedures to document, track, and resolve reported problems and to meet operational service levels and standards. Utilizes product information or solution database to research, troubleshoot, and deliver solutions. Additionally, Help Desk Support, Sr. advises users on the methods, steps, and actions to resolve and avoid future issues and provides documentation as needed. Escalates problems to appropriate levels or teams to achieve issue resolution. May support installs or upgrades of software or devices, set up user profiles, or re-set passwords. Fulfills all service level standards for response time and quality. May require an associate degree. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Help Desk Support, Sr. works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Summary:      Supports the instructional and administrative computer technology needs of all district students and staff.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

     
          
    • Facilitates the installation of new and existing hardware and software across the district.
    •     
    • Assists in the identification, evaluation, and piloting of new computing programs and technology-based curricular adoptions; and makes recommendations for expansion or discontinuation of such programs.
    •     
    • Maintains up to date knowledge of the Windows operating system, Active Directory, iOS and associated hardware.
    •     
    • Continually updates knowledge of ever-expanding list of district adopted programs and technology-based curriculum resources.
    •     
    • Recommends changes to the hardware distribution and purchases of new and replacement equipment to the Director of Information Technology.
    •     
    • Provides assistance, as required, to the System Administrator - Network with regard to technical support of local and wide area networks.
    •     
    • Provides technical support for all district staff.
    •     
    • Works with the Coordinator of Instructional Resources to keep staff informed of the best practices in the use of adopted software.
    •     
    • Works with the building technology committee to determine current and future needs and makes recommendations for upgrades and replacements.
    •     
    • Provides primary installation, update, and replacement services for technology hardware and software in the building.
    •     
    • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
    •     
    • Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: 
          
    • Collaborates with assigned summer workers for installations, upgrades, and replacements.
     

    Qualification Requirements:

     
          
    • Experience with computers, computer operations, computer peripherals, computer software applications and general computer troubleshooting is essential
    •     
    • Ability and experience setting-up, configuring, and operating a networked computer

    Education and/or Experience: 
          
    • Minimum two-year technical degree or related experience in a technical support environment
     
    Language Skills: 
          
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
    •     
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
    •     
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to students, staff and community
    •     
    • Ability to describe situations calling for troubleshooting and to take oral instructions for addressing these situations

    Mathematical Skills: 
          
    • Ability to apply basic mathematical and analytical skills 

    Reasoning Ability: 
          
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to new situations and experiences
    •     
    • Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions 

    Other Skills & Abilities: 
          
    • Ability to work without direct and/or continual supervision
    •     
    • Ability to work with secondary students 
    •     
    • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and staff
    •     
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
    •     
    • Ability to perform duties in stressful situations and in the midst of repeated interruptions
    •     
    • Ability to keep records or documentation as requested

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
          
    • use hands, fingers for jobs requiring fine motor skills;
    •     
    • use hand and wrist, often in repetitive motions;
    •     
    • reach using hands and arms;
    •     
    • stand, walk, bend or lean over; 
    •     
    • push or pull up to 75 pounds of equipment such as computers, computer attachments, carts, monitors, etc. 
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use: 
          
    • speech and hearing
    •     
    • close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need to be able to sustain a high level of energy for ongoing troubleshooting and assistance.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is that of a normally operating secondary school and can be anywhere in the building where computers are being used for instructional, administrative, or maintenance purposes - offices, classrooms, library media center, computer labs, network closets, maintenance areas.  
     
    Evaluation:
     Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines by the building principal, building library media specialist and the Director of Information Technology.
