Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for cross-training and operating the Blockbreaker, Shear, Baler, as well as various pieces of heavy equipment in the yard. The Heavy Equipment Operator will support operations through the operation of various shearing and baling equipment. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy machinery, as well as performing light maintenance. Must be familiar with and adhere to service requirements, equipment and operator limitations and safe operating procedures at all times.
Essential Job Functions:
Will perform the following:
- Sets up and operates large stationary Harris Shear, Blockbreaker, Baler, and other pieces of heavy equipment to process scrap metal as defined by company standards.
- Maintain accurate production reports.
- Work with other operators to produce quality material.
- Maintain inventories of the various departments.
- Perform lightweight maintenance on various pieces of heavy equipment (i.e. changing table bearings, greasing, etc.)
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
Qualifications:

- High School diploma or GED.
- Industry experience in scrap and metal preferred
- At least two (2) years of experience being an operator
- Basic understanding of hydraulic and electric systems
- Prior experience with hand tools, preferred, but not required
- Ability to work inside or outside as required
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
- Punctual and reliable; good attendance required
- Good communication skills
- Team-player
- Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills; must be willing to cross-train on other equipment
- Ability to adhere to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules that are set forth; promotes the Company’s safety standards; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.
- Basic math, reading and writing English skills are required.

Work Hours:
Monday through Friday with a 40-hour work week; overtime as necessary.
