Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors.     ZACHRY is currently seeking an experienced Industrial Heavy Equipment Operator (Dirt) to operate one or more of the following, CAT 140M Blade w/GPS, JD 750k Dozer W/GPS, or a CAT 349 Track hoe for new construction work at our OPPD Project in Omaha Nebraska.


    Position Summary

    • An Industrial Heavy Equipment Operator will operate one or more of the following construction equipment such as a CAT 140M Blade w/GPS, JD 750k Dozer W/GPS, and a CAT 349 Track hoe, 740 Trucks to move earth.
    • They will also be responsible for safety, equipment inspections, and possibly assisting with repairs.
    • The position will be expected to assist other crafts in their down times which may include non-operating activities.

    Qualification Highlights

    • Must have 4 years of experience as a Dirt Equipment Operator in heavy industrial construction
    • Must possess all Knowledge Skills and Abilities for positions.
    • Must be able to meet all physical requirements.
    • May be required to have a valid driver’s license and meet a motor vehicle records check.
    • Must have all required tools.
    • Must have reliable transportation.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Will operate various construction dirt equipment to move earth in a precision process.
    • Will inspect equipment.
    • Will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
    • May follow signal directions from a signaler in equipment operations.
    • Will access area of operations for safety issues and required processes and planning of equipment operations.
    • Will assist in other job site related tasks as assigned while not operating.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must have experience and knowledge of operating varies construction equipment including but not limited to: bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, and graders.
    • Must have basic mechanical knowledge and illustrate the abilities to inspect equipment.
    • Must have knowledge of and be familiar with soil types.
    • Must illustrate knowledge of excavating and the specifications that are required for a given excavation.
    • Must be able to follow instructions correctly.
    • Must be reliable, accountable, and consistent in performing administrative processes such as but not limited to equipment inspection paperwork.
    • Must be willing and able to follow all instructed safety regulations.
    • Must be able to make it work on time and work the designated schedule and any overtime as needed with the proper notification.

    Preferred Additional Qualification

    • Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
    • Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
    • Valid Driver’s License.

    This position does not have any direct reports.


    Physical Requirements

    • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
    • Will talk and hear to communicate.
    • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools.
    • May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
    • Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
    • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
    • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
