Heavy Assembler assembles fabricated parts to large or heavy subassemblies and completes units. Fits, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Being a Heavy Assembler conducts welding, riveting, and trimming of parts to fit or align components. Uses hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, and other assembly equipment. Additionally, Heavy Assembler typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     JOB SUMMARY

    Assembles metal products partially or completely, working at bench or on shop floor by performing the following duties.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or Controlled documents.
    • Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, or other fasteners.
    • Operates drills, hand/air impact wrenches, and hand tools.
    • Produces a completed unit capable of passing final inspection.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with other employees of the organization.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
