Heavy Assembler assembles fabricated parts to large or heavy subassemblies and completes units. Fits, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Being a Heavy Assembler conducts welding, riveting, and trimming of parts to fit or align components. Uses hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, and other assembly equipment. Additionally, Heavy Assembler typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc.’s Assembler's responsibilities:
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to minimize risk of injuries.
• Meet production rate of 125 units per day or 500 per work week.
• Inspection of new, welded wire pairs to ensure that weld is approximately 1 to 2 inches from end of wire without kinks or twists.
• String four ceramic insulators on the wire starting at the end of wire opposite the weld.
• Ensure that there is no twisting of the wire between the first insulator and the weld. Inspect the position of insulators to ensure they are touching and snug to weld.
• Install rubber insulator on each of the wires.
• Bundle the completed thermocouples into groups of 25 with identical calibration ratings.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
• Fine motor skills and finger dexterity to hold thin wires.
• Visual acuity to be able complete task including quality control.
• Ability to remain focused on task to be able to meet production rate.
• Consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure safety of self and peers.
Education and Experience:
Requires a level of knowledge normally gained with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Work Environment
This job operates in a climate controlled environment.
