Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Job Summary
Provides subject matter expertise in federal, state and local regulations and industry best practice for all areas of assigned responsibilities including but not limited to the Joint Commission standards, OSHA, Life Safety Code, Department of Health, Department of Transportation, CMS Requirements of Participation and Conditions of Participation, Facility services, and building security and safety services. Ensures a healthy and safe work environment by developing and maintaining the appropriate programs, policies and procedures in compliance with all applicable regulations. Provides technical support for facility systems and program support for all assigned areas of responsibility.
Maintains, supports and conducts education and training programs in assigned areas of responsibilities for field locations. Provides consultation to all field service lines in order to identify safety risks and make recommendations to address issues.
Participates in accident and security investigations as necessary. Familiar with a variety of operational concepts, practices and procedures. Prioritizes, sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities and monitors and summarizes progress of projects. Relies on experience, judgment, and organizational objectives to plan and accomplish goals. Understands a systems approach to problem solving and process improvement involving staff. Builds and maintains working relationships with team members, vendors, and other departments involved in projects. Prepares reports for upper management regarding status of projects. Ensures completion and documentation of Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. In lieu of degree, leadership may accept six years’ experience in relevant work assignments.
Three years' experience successfully leading program support and development preferred.
