Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Great Plains Safety and Health Organization (GPSHO) is seeking a safety professional knowledgeable in both Mine Safety (MSHA) as well as OSHA compliancy. The successful candidate must possess a strong work ethic, be self-motivated with minimal supervision, and understand the importance of customer service.
Essential Job Functions
Evaluate, manage and ensure client regulatory compliance related to mine safety, health and environmental policies
Identify best workplace practices with the overall goal to eliminate hazards, increase safety awareness and develop employee safe work habits
Conduct training in compliance with state and federal guidelines; follow client training plans to meet all federal requirements
Experience with technologies and best practices for instructional manuals and teaching platforms
Conduct Site Inspections
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental or equivalent
Minimum two years professional experience, including training facilitation
MSHA (Part 48/Part 46) and/or Underground Mine Experience
OSHA/Safety training certifications
Knowledge of using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Excellent communication and organization skills
Preferences
Bilingual English/Spanish skills
