    General Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Safety and Security Manager assumes responsibility for the comprehensive oversight and management of safety and security programs and services within the organization. Ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local safety and security regulations is a primary focus of this role.    
        
    Supervisory Responsibilities: The Safety and Security Manager supervises security personnel, including security guards, ensuring their professionalism and adherence to established protocols    
        
    Major Responsibilities:     
        
    Strategic Planning and Administration:    
    • Develop, implement, and manage the Agency’s safety and security plan to foster a secure environment for clients, staff, and the public.
    • Administer health and safety-related programs, encompassing hazardous waste management, chemical hygiene, and compliance with health and fire codes.
    • Formulate and execute health, safety, emergency response, and preparedness training programs for staff, including the coordination of safety drills.
    Security Protocol Development and Implementation:    
    • Collaborate with agency and public safety personnel to devise effective strategies for addressing security concerns, including threat assessment.
    • Maintain crisis intervention and emergency management programs in coordination with city and county emergency management authorities.
    • Work closely with Communications and Information Technology departments to design, implement, and train staff on emergency alert, communication, and response systems.
    Policy Development and Research:    
    • Spearhead the development of new safety and security policies, leveraging insights from ongoing research into emerging technologies and industry best practices.
    • Implement policies related to building visitor management to enhance facility security.
        
    Facility Inspection and Maintenance:    
    • Facilitate comprehensive inspections of all facilities and equipment, overseeing repairs, safety enhancements, and risk management projects as needed.
    • Manage hazardous and medical waste collection, storage, recycling, and disposal processes, including the safe disposal of student medications.
    Injury and Illness Prevention:    
    • Develop and maintain injury and illness prevention policies and procedures, including safety plans, awareness programs, accident investigations, and health and safety inspections.
    Building Security Administration:    
    • Administer building security measures, including security and surveillance equipment, door locks, key security, and employee ID badge issuance.
        
    Minimum Qualifications:     
    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Law Enforcement, or related field. OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.     
    EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)    
        
    Preferred Qualifications:    
    EDUCATION:  Master’s degree in a related field     
    EXPERIENCE:  Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)    
    Three or more years of experience in occupational health, safety, or industrial hygiene.     
    Experience and/or training in security or law enforcement.    
        
    Performance Requirements:    
        
    KNOWLEDGE:    
    • Knowledge of state and federal regulations.
    • Knowledge of current codes and ordinances as they pertain to water and air quality, hazardous waste handling, and disposal and chemical hygiene management.
    • Knowledge of current safety and security practices including Lockout/Tagout and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    SKILLS:    
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy in working with diverse constituencies and staff. Commitment to a team approach. Successful experience working collaboratively with others to advance organizational objectives.
    • Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills. Effective and accurate communication under time limitations. Strong knowledge of grammar.
    ABILITIES:    
    1. Demonstrated ability:
    • Interpret local, state, and federal legislation, regulations, policies, and rules governing environmental, health, and safety issues.
    • Develop clear and concise policies to assist the Agency in meeting obligations and objectives
    • Maintain confidentiality.
        
        
    Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, printers, telephones, etc.    
        
    Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.     
        
    Mental/Physical Requirements:  While performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers reach with arms, talk, or listen.
