We are looking for someone for the Forensic Underwriter Sr role to: Utilizes accepted WoodmenLife underwriting practices, philosophy, written guidance and approved reinsurance manuals to assess/audit risk decisions. Analyze anomalies, inconsistencies, incomplete information, coverage requests, risk exposure and underwriting decision based on a review of each case being audited. Work with actuaries, underwriting management and reinsurance partners to determine appropriate audit testing parameters. Recommend changes to ongoing underwriting/sales programs as a result of auditing activities to establish more refined approaches to risk selection through review of data. Communicates with the sales force, medical facilities, vendors, insurance companies, reinsurers, applicants/members, underwriting management, and medical director to gather information for appropriately assessing and confirming risk decisions. Communicates and collaborates with fraud experts at WoodmenLife as well as external industry experts to continually monitor potential fraud from any source including applicants, sales agents and others that may attempt fraudulent transactions. Reviews contestable claims and live rescissions as assigned. Provides claims examiner or underwriting management with the underwriting perspective based on an analysis of the situation. Provides expert opinions and risk mitigation strategies to underwriting management, medical director and senior management with respect to changes that may be needed in risk evaluation and a result of ongoing auditing activities. Recognize training needs, assisting in the development and delivery of training to the underwriting team. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for all underwriting topics and serves as an expert witness if called upon in a legal matter. Provides assistance to attorneys during litigation, arbitration or other disputes. Adheres to Core Operations behavior standards which include focusing on solutions, being open to feedback and dialogue, taking initiative, and be involved and accountable to results. We need someone who has: Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent education/experience. College degree in a related field preferred. Eight to ten plus years previous experience working as an underwriter in the life insurance industry preferably with previous underwriting auditing experience. Completion of ALU Certificate (LOMA 280, 290, 311; ALU 101) and EKG course required. AALU or FALU designations preferred. Knowledge and demonstrated experience using medical terminology, describing medical disorders, and their significance to life insurance is required. Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated through critical thinking, conflict resolution, ability to problem solve and make sound decisions. Ability to be self-motivated, work with high level or concentration, display a high attention to detail and reading comprehension. Ability to organize and prioritize work to effectively meet deadlines in a high stress environment. Ability to work across multiple operational systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain reasoning effectively. Strong negotiation and presentation skills desired. Ability to maintain confidentially, sensitivity and professionalism in difficult situations. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and be seen by others as a leader. Must possess the ability to provide co-workers with effective and constructive performance feedback. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of WoodmenLife products and processes preferred.
