The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's Health Department is seeking an additional Health Benefits Assistant III to join our team and play a vital role in our Wellness Program dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Tribal Citizens and other American Indians/Alaska Natives!
The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe (JST) Health Benefits Assistant III assists the Tribal Health Benefits Manager with the daily operation of the Wellness Program for JST Citizens. This position is responsible for screening and enrolling eligible JST Citizens into appropriate health insurance plans, process reimbursements, copays, co-insurance, and deductibles, process reimbursements or payments for out of area Tribal citizens, work with clinic communication’s team to keep website up to date, update policies as necessary when changes have been made, and other duties as assigned.
What you'll do:
- Oversee the daily tasks of the Wellness Program including screening and enrolling eligible Tribal citizens in appropriate health insurance plans and helping citizen’s complete required paperwork to maintain eligibility for their coverage.
- Assist Tribal Citizens in using their coverage and other health programs. Assist with problem resolution.
- Help educate pharmacies, physicians’ offices and other health care providers how the Wellness and Out of Area (OOA) Programs work.
- Register Out of Area Tribal Citizens by phone, fax, mail or email.
- Maintain spreadsheet of funds spent on each Out of Area Tribal Citizen.
- Manage pharmacy accounts, notifying pharmacy staff of when Tribal Citizens are eligible to charge co-pays on the MCP accounts.
- Arrange for and process payments for health services received by Tribal Citizens.
- Coordinate with the Tribal Accounting Office to ensure availability of funds.
- Scan, organize and maintain the electronic filing systems for the Wellness and OOA Programs.
- Perform general administrative duties including processing daily correspondence with Tribal Citizens, medical providers and other vendors, including but not limited to; reimbursements, copays, co-insurance, and deductibles.
- Assist in the use and updating of spreadsheets and database programs for record keeping.
- Ensure proper reporting made monthly to the Accounting Department.
- Coordinate tasks assigned by the Director and Deputy Director. Assignments will frequently require detailed formatting and editing of final documents using word processing software.
- Provide support for Health Department functions such as community events and health education promotion.
- Coordinate with Jamestown Family Health Staff for distribution of OTC and DME items already purchased by the program and help arrange for the purchase of items as needed.
- Ensure health department office equipment is working properly and contact appropriate repair/maintenance person when it is not.
- Adhere to all JST policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan and HIPPA.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates Degree preferred
- Two (2) years Health Benefits required
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suites as well as knowledge of basic office equipment such as printers, copiers and scanners
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication
- Accountability for daily insurance program operations with a thorough understanding of the goals and needs of the organization.
- Ability to comprehend and follow established office protocols and policies
- Must possess excellent customer service skills
- Flexibility with work schedule to attend Department meetings and events.
- Ability to have and maintain good working relationships with Tribal Citizens, Co-workers and supervisors required
- Proven ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Must be able to successfully pass criminal background investigation

Pay: $22.44 - $29.17 per hour
