Health Underwriter jobs in Sterling Heights, MI

Sycamore Specialty Underwriters is a Michigan-based specialty wholesale broker, focusing on hospitality, cannabis, energy and niche personal lines dwellings. We are seeking an Underwriter for our Troy, MI office.

The Underwriter will be responsible for developing a book of business; thus they should have strong relationship building skills to work with our targeted carriers, retail insurance agents and staff.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain underwriting files including an understanding of policy reviews, inspection reviews, and endorsements.
• Assess new business submissions and negotiate terms, by selecting the markets that can provide the most coverage at the best price.
• Understand and be knowledgeable of markets and underwriting guidelines.
• Solicit new business through various sales and marketing techniques and begin establishing relationships within a territory utilizing agency visits, marketing emails and cross selling.
• Work with retail insurance agents, to develop and submit business to target markets for placement.
• Assess new business submissions and negotiate terms, by selecting the markets that can provide the most coverage at the best price.
• Follow submissions through the process, to assure quotes are provided in a timely manner and negotiate with all parties involved to reach an acceptable price.
• Coordinate and handle administrative workflows in conjunction with support team(s) to establish accurate and prompt response to service issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 2 years insurance experience; E&S experience preferred
• Multi-line underwriting experience preferred
• Appropriate agent and broker licensing and CE credits, as needed
• RPLU, CIC, CPCU or other industry designation(s) is a plus
