Health Information Services Director jobs in Kentucky

Health Information Services Director directs and oversees all policies and procedures related to healthcare information management. Responsible for ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the medical records and transcription departments. Being a Health Information Services Director reviews processes and identifies areas for improvement taking into account user needs. May act as liaison between information services and technology department, ensuring that systems are accessible and in accordance with the needs of the organization. Additionally, Health Information Services Director ensures that all record keeping and information disbursement complies with HIPAA regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Health Information Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Health Information Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Position Summary Functions in a management position, accountable for day-to-day responsibilities to include planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and communicating for all Health Information Management departments within Med Center Health.# Accountability includes record control, coding, transcription, cancer registry, and/or release of information functions and personnel. Makes decisions within the framework of the organization#s philosophies, policies, and procedures.# Makes independent decisions for assigned area following the guidelines established by Med Center Health.# Coordinates functions of the department while operating within the established departmental budget for each location. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Four years of responsibility in Health Information Management experience required with focused skills and expertise in the area of management as either the Director or Assistant Director. Previous survey experience preferred. Education Bachelor#s degree or equivalent education and experience required. Master#s degree preferred. Certifications/Licensure Certification credential as either R.H.I.A. or R.H.I.T required. Leadership Performance Standards Delivering Results Leads and engages a service line or department(s) closely aligned to Med Center Health#s strategic initiatives and organizational goals. Identifies and recommends initiatives and programs for assigned area(s). Tracks and assesses the effectiveness of programs and practices and assures that goals and targets are met. Staffing and Development Hires, retains, trains and develops employees who have the appropriate level of job knowledge, skill and overall fit to the department and to the organization. Communicates job performance expectations and provides performance feedback that facilitates development. Actively addresses employee performance concerns through conflict-resolution and delivers progressive employee counseling actions appropriate to Med Center Health policies and procedures. Cultivating a Strong Workplace Actively champions employee engagement. Is well aware of employee morale and intervenes appropriately to maintain high levels of employee morale and engagement. Fosters a team atmosphere and facilitates open communications to support Med Center Health#s mission, vision and values. Encourages teamwork among direct reports; facilitates resolution of team conflicts and promotes respect between all team members and across the organization. Financial Performance Directs the department(s) financial performance and operational budget. Analyzes costs, develops programs to assure compliance with budgetary constraints and provides justifications for budget variances. Plans for the ongoing and future capital needs of the department with necessary analysis and documentation. Responsible for developing, interpreting, and applying organization#s policies, budgets, and long range plans for facilities, equipment, and personnel as they apply to the Health Information Management department. Maintains liaison with other department managers to facilitate a team approach in patient care. Provides positive, supportive communication to patients, families, visitors and employees. Ensures efficient workflow, effective use of personnel and time, and high standard of performance and patient care. Assists Vice President in coordination activities and surveillance associated with maintaining constant regulatory survey readiness for entities subject to The Joint Commission survey within Med Center Health. Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and licensure requirements for all Med Center Health entities. Collaborates with managers to resolve continued noncompliance with standards. Provides mentoring and coaching of care-providers regarding aspects of on-site survey inspections Collaborates across entities for consistency in policies and procedures Reviews policies and procedures assuring compliance with regulatory standards Assists in the coordination of activities associated with unannounced surveys Assists in the development of responses to required evidence of standards compliance as a result of unannounced surveys Coordinates activities associated with mock survey, reporting of findings, and subsequent requested responses Assists any Med Center Health entity with implementing or reviewing health information management standards/requirements for a new or existing service.
