Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree and four years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Substitutions: master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.
Duties Description
The Research Scientist 3 will be responsible for preparing data analysis consistent with the Bureau data management practices and procedures, data governance, data security, master data management, business intelligence, and data quality.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Review, understand and incorporate the Bureau data management practice and strategy and the Data Management Body of Knowledge.
- Participate in discussions with cross bureau discussions related to data and reporting needs.
- Devise methods to identify data trends and patterns.
- Assess data structures to determine how to best provide data aligned with performance indicators for the Division beginning to end operations.
- Research data sources and data tools and make recommendations for new sources and tools.
- Use a variety of approaches (tabulations, visualizations, supervised and unsupervised learning, predictive and retrospective analysis, statistics, machine learning, etc.) to perform data analysis.
- Ensure data compilation and analysis are clearly documented and adhere to standards and best practices.
- Perform peer reviews to ensure data analysis is conducted in accordance with the Bureau practices and standards.
