Health Informatics Manager manages a clinical biostatistics or health informatics team. Oversees the analysis, management and performance of health information data to aid patient care. Being a Health Informatics Manager monitors latest software and technology to keep processes up-to-date and efficient. Communicates with analysts, healthcare providers, and management to establish new processes and analyses, and to tailor current data processes to best help providers. Additionally, Health Informatics Manager requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Health Informatics Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Health Informatics Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary:

    Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice; aligns people, processes and technology to support evidence-based information systems that enable the delivery of efficient and effective nursing care across the organization. Works with clinical and IT leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and workflows that impact clinical users. Participates in inter/intra professional feasibility assessments to identify potential areas of system improvement. Defines health IT requirements for nursing and other disciplines as they relate to the strategic plan. Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of informatics strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice.

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Work Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
    • Master's degree in nursing, informatics, information systems or MBA or closely related field: Preferred
    • Doctor of nursing practice or PhD in nursing or informatics: Preferred
    • Fifteen years' related experience: Preferred
    • Seven years' leadership experience: Preferred

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure; if not in State of California, must obtain within one year of hire: Required 
    • ANCC Nursing Informatics-Board Certified: Required within one year of hire 
    • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems: Preferred

    Essential Functions:

    • Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice; aligns people, processes and technology to support evidence-based information systems that enable the delivery of efficient and effective nursing care across the organization.
    • Participates as key strategic partner in providing informatics expertise in the planning and implementation of redesigned care delivery (and all supporting activities). Develops and implements appropriate service delivery and clinical system strategies while defining, delivering, and improving services for the enterprise and its customers.
    • Works with clinical and IT leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and workflows that impact clinical users. Works with vendors to proactively strategize on development and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet organizational business needs.
    • Participates in inter/intra professional feasibility assessments to identify potential areas of system improvement. This includes an analysis of the current practice and process, technical options and the potential impact of the solution options on the workflow and contributes to policy and procedure development that will be used in conjunction with the evolving use of new technologies.
    • Defines health IT requirements for nursing and other disciplines as they relate to the strategic plan. Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of informatics strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice. Ensures that the environment, technology and infrastructure are emphasized in the prevention of medical errors and adverse events. Implements downtime readiness procedures and internal reporting regarding system response time and service level agreements for connectivity and operational effectiveness of health IT.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
