Health Informatics Manager manages a clinical biostatistics or health informatics team. Oversees the analysis, management and performance of health information data to aid patient care. Being a Health Informatics Manager monitors latest software and technology to keep processes up-to-date and efficient. Communicates with analysts, healthcare providers, and management to establish new processes and analyses, and to tailor current data processes to best help providers. Additionally, Health Informatics Manager requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Health Informatics Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Health Informatics Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Develops and recommends solutions, both automated and manual, to enhance functionality. Manages the nursing aspects related to the implementation of major clinical and medical systems. Responsible for the management of nursing and ancillary project teams associated with the development or implementation of clinical and financial information systems. Manages the development and implementation of automated clinical information systems for the Nursing Institute and the integration / interface to all other hospital systems. Ensures automated systems conform to accreditation standards such as JCAHO and HCFA, and to standards set by other regulatory agencies. Assists ITD and other support departments in planning and organizing of technical information in clinical areas and ensures compatibility with financial and other hospital information systems. Develops and reviews the matrices of the organization, processes, applications, and data relations to assist in defining, documenting, recommending changes to the CC Information Architecture. Chairs and advises multi-disciplinary committees to determine system solutions to ensure patient medical needs are met. Responsible for liaison activities between ITD, other CC departments, and the Nursing Institute to plan, document, and maintain automation of patient care activities related to the nursing functions, procedures and protocols. Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. Master's in Nursing Informatics or related field preferred. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current state licensure as an Registered Nurse (RN). COMPLEXITY OF WORK: In-depth knowledge of clinical nursing theory, practice, and health care delivery systems. Advanced knowledge of information systems as applied and integrated with nursing practice including clinical and financial systems related to health care. Knowledge of JCAHO and HCFA requirements pertaining to clinical care knowledge of EMR documentation. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Five years clinical experience in a hospital or major medical center to include various facets of nursing administration such as first line manager and project manager responsibility for the integration of information systems and clinical practice. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Typical physical demands that may require standing and walking for extended periods of time. Sufficient manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform the basic functions of the position. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and some irregular hours. Possible exposure to bacterial and viral contamination. Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
