Health Informatics Manager manages a clinical biostatistics or health informatics team. Oversees the analysis, management and performance of health information data to aid patient care. Being a Health Informatics Manager monitors latest software and technology to keep processes up-to-date and efficient. Communicates with analysts, healthcare providers, and management to establish new processes and analyses, and to tailor current data processes to best help providers. Additionally, Health Informatics Manager requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Health Informatics Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Health Informatics Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Director of Informatics is a leader accountable for improving patient experience and care, driving value, innovation, and growth. The Director of Informatics identifies and champions information systems and technology solutions that improve clinical efficiency, support optimal workflows, and enable clinicians to provide the best possible patient care. Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Medical Information Officer, the Office of Health Sciences along with other MSU Healthcare operational leaders and MSU ITS colleagues, the Director of Informatics designs road maps that are aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of MSU Healthcare.

    The primary areas of responsibility of the Director of Informatics position are:

    • Planning and strategy implementation for clinical technology adoption through informatics and training, ensuring a strategic data driven approach to optimize clinical systems, serving our patients and the organization’s community of physicians, nurses, and staff.
    • Acts as thought leader, tracking industry trends and practices to stay on the forefront of healthcare informatics and clinical system education, maintaining an in-depth knowledge of healthcare topics and patient care practices, technology, and analytics.
    • Provides leadership and serves as a resource in the evaluation, selection, implementation, and evolution of clinical information systems to enhance the delivery of patient care, while ensuring that they meet organizational, regulatory, and clinical quality standards.
    • Development and implementation of EHR standard use and standard workflows across all MSU Healthcare clinics.
    • Acts as a system-wide change leader, driving organizational change management to ensure successful adoption and maximize value for the healthcare team and patient care. Employs methods of effective change management to advance the enterprise’s strategic objectives using tools, clinical processes, communication strategies and operational practices.
    • Ensures the integrity and meaningful use of data.
    • Monitors and assesses the user experience of clinical staff with health information technology tools and systems and addresses issues and concerns to improve overall user satisfaction.
    • Advocates for the successful integration of technology in all aspects clinical practice
    • Act as a liaison to OHS technical resources and MSU IT as a representative of MSU Healthcare in all areas of technology, including but not limited to, applications, IT infrastructure, telecom functionality, data integration, project prioritization, and issue resolution.

    The candidate must possess a strong understanding of clinical application concepts and capabilities for healthcare delivery systems, the healthcare regulatory framework and the expertise necessary to be an active participant for strategic and tactical technology planning and development. The candidate must demonstrate proven leadership skills, including the ability to strategize, influence stakeholders, coach and develop clinical team members.
