  • Job Summary
    This position will be responsible for all aspects of clinical software and be able to provide guidance and assistance in the proper use of this software.  Additional responsibilities include in-depth involvement with the selection, installation, and training on new and existing clinical applications.   In conjunction with other Information Systems team members or vendors, this position will assist in problem determination, system design, program testing, and performing quality control checks on programs and applications.   Provides ongoing maintenance and support for clinical applications including but not limited to the design, build, workflow analysis, and redesign of clinical documentation applications. Tests new and changed application functionalities. Performs routine healthcare application support, installation, and maintenance. Facilitates training sessions and maintains documents. Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations for application workflow improvements. Participates in system review, design, development, and testing. Develops protocols, policies, procedures, and quality metrics. Ensures compliance with regulations.

     Job Duties:

    • Routinely analyzes and oversees system performance and identifies potential issues requiring intervention.
    • Assists in the research and development of detailed specifications and requirements for clinical applications that are requested.
    • With supervision, coordinates the installation of new software applications between I.S. and the users of the clinical applications.
    • With supervision, coordinates the implementation of any changes made to existing applications between the department and the users of the clinical applications.
    • Participates in the development, revision, and enforcement of policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility.  
    • Assures adequate documentation of system procedures, policies, and routines to support the ongoing utilization of systems
    • With assistance, provides project leadership and supervision of one major project team involved in the installation, upgrade, or enhancement of applications.
    • Will be responsible for meeting regulatory and accrediting agency requirements in the areas of systems training, education, and use of clinical applications.
    • Assures that duties assigned are completed in a timely manner.  Provides direction and assistance as required, including performance of routine maintenance procedures as needed.
    • Serves as communication liaison between system users and the Information Services department to explore information system needs and to identify and define areas of improvement. 
    • Adheres to department standards for project management, software selection, application development, maintenance, documentation, and service levels.
    • Consults with vendor resources as needed to maintain knowledge of system and to assure maximal system utilization and operations.
    • Continually updates personal knowledge of healthcare, clinical software, and training by participating in continuing education programs/conferences, and by review of the literature and periodicals.
    •  In cooperation with technical support team, assures that system back-ups, data continuity and disaster recovery procedures and policies are developed and effectively implemented.
    • In cooperation with other team members, assures that information shared between financial and clinical systems and applications is accurate and that data transfers are free of errors and omissions.
    • Serves as conduit of information between applicable vendors and users to communicate potential system changes, enhancements, and issues.  Forwards appropriate vendor communication to users.
    • Develops training curriculum content in cooperation with departmental users, and Education Department.  Must be able to conduct formal training sessions and one-on-one training as needed.
    • Develops issue tickets with EMR vendor support staff as appropriate.  Monitors overall maintenance and support tickets for all assigned systems for timely and thorough resolution of problems.  Escalates problems as necessary through EMR vendor and Clinical Informatics Manager
    • Routinely provides updates to Clinical Informatics Manager and other team members about outstanding issues, updates, and trends.
    • Responsible for the protection of confidentiality and privacy of health information through the development of appropriate access and system security measures.
    • Provides assistance to help desk staff on issues related to assigned applications.
    • Provides on-call support when required for all clinical application systems.  Provides occasional weekend and night support to Clinical Informatics on a rotational or emergency basis.
    • Performs other duties as required by organizational imperatives/as assigned by supervision.

    Qualifications: 

    1. Education:  Associates Degree in nursing required. Current, unencumbered licensed practical or registered nursing license required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.  
    2. Training and Experience: 1 year of clinical experience in patient care required. Previous clinical analyst experience in healthcare systems preferred.
    3. Job Knowledge:  Project management skills necessary to coordinate multiphase, multi-disciplined projects working with all levels of health care system staff.  

    Essentials:

    1. Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol. 
    2. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.

     

    Physical Demands: Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work.  The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving equipment; and lifting or pushing of up to 50 pounds.    The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.  Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.  A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
