Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Positions Supervised: None

    Work Schedule: 8 am - 4 pm, M-F, with one-hour unpaid lunch. Adjustments to schedule with supervisor approval. Evenings and weekends required.

     

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the health education program manager will be expected to assess, plan, implement and evaluate health education programs for topics including, but not limited to HIV, injury prevention, nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco cessation and prevention.

    • Conduct health education, health promotion, and public awareness activities including but not limited to presentations, speaking engagements, health fairs and festivals. Work with and interact effectively and professionally with individuals and community partners.
    • Utilize appropriate methods for ineracting effectively and professionally with people of all ages and from divers cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles, and physical abilities.
    • Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of programs and educational materials and comply with federal, state, and health district policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Use quality improvement (QI) and performance management (PM) processes and/or techniques to improve the effectiveness of environmental health programs and services including but not limited to creating, implementing, and evaluating performance standards and identifying, implementing, and assessing QI processes.
    • Responsibilities include other duties as assigned including but not limited to Accreditation requirements and responding to emergency events.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or technical school): Required

    Field of Study: Health Education or Health Promotion

    Master’s Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Health Education or Health Promotion


    Experience:

    Six (6) plus months of experience in assisting in and/or developing health education programs.

    Or, related bachelor’s degree with minimum three (3) years’ experience in developing health education programs.


    Computer Skills:

    Microsoft Office required. Grant Management Information System (GMIS) to be obtained upon hire.

     

    License & Certifications:

    Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

    Other Requirements:

    National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200 and 700.a to be obtained within six (6) months of hire. NIMS/ICS 300, 400 and 800.B to be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
