Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Job Summary:
Health Educator identifies and prioritizes eligible consumers that demonstrate undesired health outcomes and whom have shown resistance to engagement in care and supportive services via onsite and remote. The Health Educator plays an integral role in providing education for PLWH and linking PLWH in services.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Qualifications/Criteria:
· Sensitivity towards PLWHAs and chronic conditions.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated adequate written and verbal skills.
· Knowledge of community resources helpful.
· Understanding of and commitment to harm reduction theory and practice. Must demonstrate a commitment to advocacy and activism, particularly in the crises of HIV/AIDS, homelessness and drug policy.
Education:
· BA degree and 2 years’ experience working with PLWHA / MSM and IDU.
· Entitlement knowledge for PLWHA
· Knowledge of harm reduction services to high risk populations including drug users, those in recovery, the homeless and sex workers.
