Head of Anesthesiology is responsible for the efficient operation of anesthesia services. Develops, implements, and maintains anesthesia procedures and practices. Being a Head of Anesthesiology works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Manages a staff of anesthesia technicians and nurses. Additionally, Head of Anesthesiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a top management. The Head of Anesthesiology manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Head of Anesthesiology typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Our District:

    The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12.  Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

    Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains.  Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar.  Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

    The Head Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the district’s cars, buses, and other rolling stock in such a state of operating readiness that supports no disruptions to the educational program; manage operation of the bus garage; communicating with the Transportation Supervisor so that decisions are made in a collaborative manner; maintaining accurate records of shop operation; and financially operating within the shop budget as set by the Transportation Supervisor.

    Job Functions

    • Assign work on an equitable basis
    • Schedules, organizes, prioritizes, and reviews work assignments to assure timely and effective completion
    • Communicate information from the supervisor to the individual department staff
    • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required documentation/paperwork
    • Provide orientation for new employees of the department
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions: 

    This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

    • Assist in the scheduling of mechanics work hours to produce the most productive, cost-effective maintenance program possible
    • Assign tasks for the day according to priority and assure that condemnable defects are corrected in a timely manner
    • Distribute all necessary paperwork to mechanics affiliated with the days work to assure proper time utilization
    • Assure that mechanics are provided vehicle parts in a timely manner keeping “down time” to a minimum
    • Maintain accurate inventory of all parts on a computerized maintenance program or as directed by the Transportation Supervisor
    • Reconcile all invoices for accuracy and legitimate purchases
    • Promote and maintain high standard of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas
    • Troubleshoot equipment and computer program errors as needed
    • Process recalls and warranty work
    • Maintain a current authorization to transport students in a school bus
    • Perform or assist in collision investigations
    • Fill in as a substitute bus driver on trips and routes when assigned
    • Enter data into computer program for parts, inventory, work orders, reports, and fuel
    • Establish an effective and efficient system of routine maintenance and preventative care
    • Assure that the fleet is maintained in a state of readiness and that out-of-service does not exceed 10% but with a goal of 0%
    • Assist in recruitment, screening, training, and evaluation of shop employees
    • Maintain and verify timesheets and vacation schedules
    • Assure that hazardous materials are dealt with properly in accordance with applicable laws
    • Maintain accurate written records as to the disposal of hazardous waste
    • Assure that purchased parts are of acceptable quality and at the best price available.

    Skills and Requirements: 

    • Ability to maintain updated knowledge on school policies and procedures that affect this position
    • Ability to comfortably and safely lift, move, or carry objects in excess of forty (40) pounds
    • Ability to work well under pressure and have the capability of processing information in a timely manner
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to effectively communicate vehicles out-of-service with dispatch
    • Ability to stay informed on new techniques, procedures, and laws that will affect shop operation
    • Ability to manage the shop in a safe, cost-effective manner
    • Ability to diagnose problems on all rolling stock
    • Ability to weld with both gas and electric welders
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
    • Ability to operate a PC, navigate various forms of software and be knowledgeable of Windows Office products
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to perform maintenance and repair on all district vehicles
    • Ability to understand and maintain drivers’ work orders, maintenance logs, and other related transportation records
    • Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems and make repairs

     

    • Ability to utilize electronic testing equipment to diagnose equipment problems
    • Ability to interpret and follow wiring schematics
    • Ability to perform collision investigations as needed
    • Ability to plan and schedule repair work from written instructions, schematics, plans, and oral and written instructions
    • Ability to work with dispatch in assigning spare buses
    • Skills is gasoline and diesel engine diagnosis and repairs

    Special Requirements:

    • Washington State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with applicable endorsements to obtain a School Bus Driver authorization from the Superintendent of Public Instruction (have or obtain within 75 days of hire date)
    • ASE Certified Preferred
    • Valid 1st Aid/CPR Card (obtain within 60 days of hire date – district provided)
    • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
    • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
    • Pass the appropriate Safe Schools courses

    Work Environment: 

    The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee is exposed to diesel, gas, and welding fumes, dust, chemicals, oil, grease, and high temperatures (i.e., running engines), constant pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, squatting, running, and climbing.  The employee will work in all types of inclement weather. Constant alertness and safety awareness is required.  The employee may experience frequent interruptions.  A great deal of energy and flexibility working in a fast-paced shop is required. The noise level in the work environment may be high when working with power tools and running engines.  This list of working conditions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.
