Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit jobs in West Virginia

Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the psychiatric unit. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and psychiatric staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of psychiatric patient clinical records, and writes reports on psychiatric staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 per year Bonus Opportunities

    Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities:

    Assessment and Diagnosis:

    • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments to evaluate residents' mental health status
    • Formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans based on clinical findings

    Treatment Planning and Implementation:

    • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will develop individualized treatment plans, including medication management and therapy options
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care for residents
    • Conduct 15-minute follow-ups (on average) and 30–45-minute new patient assessments

    Medication Management:

    • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will prescribe and administer psychiatric medications as necessary
    • Monitor and adjust medication regimens to optimize effectiveness and minimize side effects

    Therapeutic Interventions:

    • Provide evidence-based psychotherapy and counseling to residents
    • Implement therapeutic techniques to address a wide range of psychiatric conditions

    Education and Support:

    • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Offers education and support to residents and their families regarding mental health conditions and treatment options
    • Promote mental health awareness and wellness among residents

    Documentation and Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards
    • Ensure timely and thorough documentation of all assessments and interventions

    Quality Improvement:

    • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance mental health care services within the facility
    • Collaborate with the healthcare team to identify areas for improvement and implement changes

    Emergency Response:

    • Assist in crisis intervention and management as needed, ensuring residents' safety and well-being.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid license as a Registered Nurse; completion of Advanced Practice Nurse Program for Clinical Nurse Specialist or Certified Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state in which you've applied (OH, PA, WV)
    • Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
    • Active and unrestricted DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
    • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards in long-term care facilities
    • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will maintain clinical competency & collaboration with Psychiatrist (we will provide)
    • Direct experience with long-term care communities is preferred as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
    • Ability to travel locally
    • Active and unrestricted driver's license
