Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the psychiatric unit. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and psychiatric staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of psychiatric patient clinical records, and writes reports on psychiatric staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Gundersen Health System is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse for our 22-bed Medical Specialty Unit. This is your opportunity to provide both med/surg and psychiatric care to patients while doing the work you love in the .

    What you will do:

    • Fulfill 48 hours per two weeks = 0.6 FTE
    • Work 8-hour rotating day (6:30am - 3pm) and PM (2:30pm - 11pm) shifts; every other weekend and holiday
    • Provide LOVE MEDICINE to our patients with Neuro-Psych diagnoses (i.e. dementia, autism, Huntington's, geropsychiatry) as well as Med-Psych diagnoses (i.e. substance abuse and withdrawal, behavioral health)
    • Partner with a team of hospitalists, psychiatrists, RNs, CNAs, Social Workers, and Recreational Therapists

    Job Description:

    The registered nurse (RN) focuses on the health and wellness of individuals, families and populations in collaboration with other health care professionals by incorporating evidence-based practice in the management of acute illness, chronic disease, disability, and end-of-life care. The RN utilizes the nursing process and aligns practice with organizational policies, professional nursing standards and regulatory practice acts.

    Major Responsibilities:

    1.Assessment: Systematically and holistically assesses the patient's physiological, emotional, sociocultural, spiritual, and financial status while considering lifestyle preferences and learning needs.
    2. Planning: Collaborates with patients, families, and health care professionals to develop a patient-centered plan of care to promote health and optimize wellness.
    3. Intervention: Provides competent and innovative patient care and education based on patient complexity, acuity, and nursing judgment within a culture of caring and safety.
    4. Documentation: Documents nursing assessment, planning, interventions, implementation, and patient/family response.
    5. Evaluation: Determines patient's progress toward achieving goal(s), and revises plan of care in collaboration with patient/family as needed.
    6. Delegation and Supervision: The RN delegates, supervises and evaluates the effectiveness of tasks performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) who have the knowledge and skill to perform the task, taking into consideration the following:

    • scope of practice

    • training

    • competence

    • population served

    • experience

    • policies and procedures

    7. Leadership: Guides, directs and influences others by participating in activities such as:

    • quality improvement, evidence-based practice and research

    • shared governance (council structure)

    • department-based projects

    • continual learning

    Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
