Position Details:
As a Pediatrics Clinic Nurse, you will play a vital role in our clinic by providing high-quality pediatric care and supporting our physicians. Your responsibilities will include:
- Prepares for patient appointments in the morning (reviews immunization records/checks Washington State Immunization Information System (WAIIS), compiles parent handouts, and Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) for any immunizations needed that day)
- Provides daily nursing care to patients, preparing them for discharge and ensuring their passage through the nursing process is smooth and timely.
- Obtains and documents patient vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, and immunization history for every appointment.
- Monitors patient vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration rate, and reports on a daily basis to the nurse manager.
- Observes patient and performs basic wound care procedures.
- Assists with advanced nursing care as indicated by physician.
- Completes vision and hearing screens as per age specific guidelines
- Administers vaccines and medications, obtains hemoglobin levels, collects and runs tests for urinalysis, rapid streptococcus swab, rapid influenza swab, places PPD’s, and prepares specimens/paperwork to be sent to the lab. Assists with other procedures such as nebulizer treatments and MDI’s (must be done under physician or nurse supervision if a medical assistant)
- Adheres to infection control protocols. Disinfects rooms, instruments, and patient care equipment.
- Maintains a clean and healthy patient environment of care.
- Completes patient care paperwork such as: school physical forms, patient travel forms, immunization cards, medication prior authorizations, referral documents, pre-operative forms and forms that need signature and approval by physician.
- Assists with "Nurse Only" or "Immunization Only" appointments.
- Maintains exam rooms stocked according to care protocol, including gowns, ear specula, cups, etc. Removes and replaces sharp containers according infection control guidelines.
- Monitors and documents vaccine refrigerator and freezer temperatures in the morning and evenings, according to WA State Dept. of Health guidelines.
- Screens patients upon entering the exam room and determines if any immediate escalation to the physician is necessary.
- Triages walk-in patients and determines need for immediate escalation to physician if necessary.
- Triages calls and portal messages using pediatric telephone triage protocols.
- Schedules sick same day appointments per triage guidelines or parental concern and or request.
- Prioritizes and returns calls or attempts to call/respond to portal messages regarding patient concerns or questions.
- Documents visits and patient interactions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a phone note or via the patient web portal.
- Attaches lab documents to patient’s chart and enters values into visit orders. Sends results to the physician. Calls family with results after the physician reviews.
- Assists with additional duties: orders lab supplies/tracks outstanding lab orders; orders and tracks vaccines; orders medical supplies; orders patient gowns; manages vaccine refrigerator thermometer calibration; maintains and updates Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) annually, participates with safety committee.
- Other duties: updates patient information handouts / VIS statements, office forms, etc.
- Reports to: Nurse Manager
Qualities we are looking for in our candidate:
- A strong desire to work with children and an interest in medical care or other related field.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- A warm heart, good communication skills and a professional appearance.
- Ability to work with a team and be responsible for her/his own actions.
- Ability to remain calm during patient emergencies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations such as crying, sneezing, etc.
- Current WA State Medical Registered Nurse license.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bilingual Spanish / English is desired but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
- 1 year experience preferred.
