Fast-pace pediatric primary practice located in Orinda and Berkeley seeking detail oriented, compassionate, energetic, and reliable Medical Assistant for the Nurse Support (NS) position for both locations. Training will be in either office, depending on staff schedule. Eventually, s/he will be trained and scheduled to work in Berkeley. Saturday Clinic coverage rotates among staff. Must be flexible and willing to work in either location to cover sick/vacation/training. Must love kids!
POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Support (NS) is expected to be proficient in providing ancillary support to the Registered Nurses while staying within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant and is cross-trained to circulate with the doctors of the practice. The NS assists in scheduling same day sick patients as well as future appointments for less acute problems during the first hour when the phones turn on in the morning and at least half an hour when the phones turn back on in the afternoon. Throughout the day, the NS assists with Electronic Health Records (EHR) tasks that do not require an RN to do it; providing support to both the nurses and the circulating staff. Assist with nurse shot visits and flu/covid vaccine clinics as needed. May have to work/cover Saturday Shot Clinics as needed when scheduled (shared responsibility amongst the staff). May have to cover Saturday Urgent Care Clinic (rotation schedule as "back-up" MA for regularly scheduled Saturday MA).
JOB DUTIES ARE THE FOLLOWING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Schedule sick appointments, Asthma reviews, Medication reviews, Immunizations per doctor's order, and annual physicals. Answer the Doctor's Line, Emergency Line, Future appointments. Coordinate with staff to set patient conferences with the doctors. Initiate, follow-up, and complete medication prior authorizations. Obtain medical records from hospital or previous provider's office (ie: reports, discharge summaries, labs or test results, consultation reports, etc). Request and follow-up on newborn screen results. Facilitate process for urgent referrals. Coordinate specialty clinic or specialist appointments. Assist with flu vaccine appointments and flu clinics as needed between September thru the end of March. Will be trained to cover and circulate on the floor - maintain patient flow within the office by preparing patients to be seen by the physician as needed to cover lunch, end of the day, illness, requested time off, or vacation. Saturday Clinic back-up coverage rotates among staff.
EXPECTATION(S):
Must be proficient in performing as Nurse Support I within 3-6 months from date of hire. Is expected to circulate on the floor and maintain patient flow within the office by preparing patients to be seen by the physician as needed to cover lunch, end of the day, illness, requested time off, or vacation within 3-6 months from date of hire.
QUALIFICATION:
Must be a Medical Assistant; Completion of Medical Assistant Program.
Candidate needs to complete Phone Interview Assessment
Pediatric experience preferred. Call center experience and/or medical records experience and/or scheduling appointments experience a plus.
