Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. What you will do in this role:
You will manage efficient flow of patients including screening, preparation for exam, providing general nursing care, and arranging or testing and admissions
You will instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions
You will maintain and review patients’ records including posting tests and examination results
You will administer medications in accordance with physician orders
You will check rooms daily for necessary supplies
You will respond to and refer incoming telephone calls (may include phone triage when needed)
What Qualifications you will need:
Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required
1-3 years experience as a registered nurse is preferred
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations
