Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Obstetrics typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     MALCOLM X COLLEGE 

     

    Malcolm X College is currently seeking adjunct instructors to teach Obstetrical Nursing. If you have passion for teaching and learning and are committed to the mission of the community college, consider joining our team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage the students in critical thinking and problem-solving. 
     
    These adjunct roles may be expected to work at a clinical site such as a partner hospital or long-term care facility. 
     
    The City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing (CCCSON) program prepares nursing students for the role of the professional registered nurse. CCCSON combines nursing theory and practices with general education. Students are provided clinical experiences and caring for individuals for all ages, through skills lab, simulation, and clinical settings throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

    • Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning. 
    • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies. 
    • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course. 
    • Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. 
    • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academic and professional communities and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities. 
    • Present effective instruction to students based upon approved course syllabi. 
    • Assess and grade students based upon legitimate assessment factors. 
    • Maintain and submit student attendance records and student grades. 
    • Hold one hour of student conference time per week for every course section taught. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s of Science in Nursing degree required
    • Doctorate in Nursing degree preferred (DNP or PhD)
    • Current unencumbered Illinois RN license required
    • At least 2 years' experience in clinical nursing practice required
    • Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar Learning Management System, preferred 
    • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification is strongly preferred 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students, required 
    • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college
