Title: Head Nurse
Reports to: Director of Health and Wellness
Position Status: Full-time

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensures continuity of care of students, often functioning in "case management" role
· Collaborates closely with Director of Health and Wellness and school physician on daily clinical operations and changes to policy and procedure.
· Leads, working closely with Director of Health and Wellness, the preparation for the start of each new school year, including administrative prep, facilities prep, supply ordering, etc.
· Prioritizes workload for the day and delegates to staff nurses as needed.
· Liaison to labs for testing, supplies, results, etc.
· Performs all duties and responsibilities listed on Staff Nurse job description (below)
Health Center Nurse Key Functions and Responsibilities:
· Manages triage and provides clinical care to all student patients, utilizing accepted nursing practices and standards for quality care. This includes direct provision of care, proper documentation and reporting of care, and routine review of standards of care. This applies to and includes care of both acute and non-acute status.
· Engages in necessary and regular collaboration and case management with the Director of Health and Wellness and school physician. Implements physician orders and notes as instructed.
· Engages in necessary and regular collaboration and case management with the Director of Health and Wellness, school physician and members of the school and local community at large; including but not limited to school counseling staff, school academic office/learning center, dorm and student life staff, school administration, community hospital and physician practice personnel.
· Engages in necessary and regular collaboration and case management with parents/guardians of students and students’ individual primary medical providers and specialists.
· Follows Health Center Policies and Procedures pertaining to operational and administrative duties and requirements for all staff applicable to clinical care.
· Assists the Director of Health and Wellness and the school physician in developing, implementing, and reviewing health center policy, procedure, and clinical guidelines. Assists in maintenance of practice guidelines and standards of care.
· Participates in routine health center operational duties including inventory management, housekeeping and laundry service collaboration, and dining service collaboration.
· Participates in public health initiatives and health education initiatives as instructed by the Director of Health and Wellness, within the health center and among the school community at large.
· Maintains up to date credentials and certifications as expected of position.
· Participates in ongoing continuing education applicable to pediatric, adolescent, school and/or community health nursing as required by appropriate nursing licensure board.
· Performs duties professionally with attention to customer service, quality care, team collaboration, open communication, clear organization, colleague respect, confidentiality laws, patient rights, and patient respect.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness.
