Head Nurse - Nursing Home plans and implements the overall nursing policies, procedures, and services for a nursing home. Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training clinical staff.     Summary:

    The charge nurse assigns responsibility to personnel for the direct nursing care of specific residents during each tour of duty on the basis of staff qualifications, size and physical layout of the facility, characteristics of the resident load, and the emotional, social, and nursing care needs of residents.

    The charge nurse shall be accountable at all times to the director of nursing or her/his designee.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    1. Gives and receives report.

    2. Takes and transcribes physicians’ orders.

    3. Administers medications according to standard nursing practice.

    4. Evaluates resident condition and care needs and assists in developing individualized resident care plans including rehabilitative and restorative activities.

    5. Admits and orients new residents.

    6. Requisitions supplies and equipment, linen, medications, etc. to meet resident needs.

    7. Performs charting duties, maintains narcotic records.

    8. Prepares necessary information to be transported with resident to appointments.

    9. Discharges and transfers resident and completes required forms.

    10. Performs and/or supervises and assists with resident care according to outlined policy and procedures.

    11. Performs treatment and other professional services as ordered or required.

    12. Gives emergency treatment as needed.

    13. Notifies physicians of changes in residents condition and any unusual or abnormal observation and takes, transcribes and notes all orders received from physician.

    14. Carries out restorative and rehabilitative program for residents.

    15. Continues professional growth, attends in-service meetings, professional meetings, and workshops.

    Possess a valid Michigan Nursing License.

    Must be CPR Certified

    Pay RN starting wage is $33.00/hr and goes up with years of experience. LPN's starting wage is $26.00 and goes up with years of experience.
