Head Nurse - CCU directs nursing service activities for assigned critical/coronary care unit patients. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and critical care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of critical care unit patient clinical records, and writes reports on critical care unit staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - CCU maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - CCU typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - CCU manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Position Summary:
    The Registered Nurse works in a collaborative and cooperative relationship with other members of the health care team, plans and implements patient and family education and is responsible for assessing the needs and initiating appropriate intervention for patients.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Current Montana Licensure (Registered Nurse)
    • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification within 6 months of hire
    • American Heart Association BLS
    • American Heart Association ACLS within 8 months of hire
    • American Heart Association PALS within 8 months of hire
    • Competence in and a willingness and ability to practice modified primary nursing.

    • Analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues (Diagnosis)
    • Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation

    • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment
    • Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
    • Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice
    • Evaluates one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations
    • Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues
    • Collaborates with patient, family and others in the conduct of nursing practice
    • Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice
    • Integrates research findings into practice
    • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession

      • Participates in one hour annually of cerebrovascular disease (stroke) education
