Under general supervision, the Librarian/Cataloging/Collection Manager performs professional work planning, organizing, and directing the ordering, cataloging, and processing of library materials using the Library’s ILS. Manages the automated functions of the library system. Work involves selecting, cataloging, and classifying library materials, monitoring library materials budget, analyzing user trends for collection development. Assists in the administration of the public library system. Employee must exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with vendors and patrons.
Reports to the Director of Library Services.
- Catalogs and classifies new and donated library materials including books, eBooks, DVDs and other materials.
- Monitors collection usage by creating and analyzing reports by user groups and collection area.
- Practical knowledge of OCLC and Marc21 bibliographic standards, current RDA and linked data standards.
- Skilled at using Library integrated software.
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Serves as liaison between library and cataloging/automation vendor(s).
- Works with the Department of Information Technology to maintain databases.
- Develops and facilitates training sessions for updates or new services.
- Performs technology troubleshooting for library equipment.
- Assists at the circulation desk, including checking library materials in and out.
- Responds to reference questions.
- Supervises assigned staff and volunteers.
- Assists director with administration of the library and responds in the absence of the director.
- Prepares various reports.
- May operate County vehicle to retrieve and distribute interoffice mail.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Our Community: Gloucester County Library
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Library Science (MLIS) from an accredited college.
- Minimum of one (1) year of technical library experience.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
