    The Athletic Department seeks candidates to fill a full-time, benefit eligible Head Athletic Trainer role in December. The Head Athletic Trainer will provide leadership, direction, and guidance in coordinating sports medicine coverage for the Wells College Intercollegiate Athletics program (NCAA Division III). In conjunction with the contracted Assistant Athletic Trainer, responsible for providing practice and event coverage as noted by National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) guidelines.   Responsible for the rehabilitation of intercollegiate athletics related sports injuries.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Coordinate and schedule athletic training coverage.
    2. Attendance at all games and attend practice per NATA guidelines
    3. Assist athletes with treatment and rehabilitation of all athletic related injuries
    4. Maintain records for all intercollegiate sports injuries using SportsWare account
    5. Consult with and refer athletes to the team physician and other specialists as necessary
    6. Attend necessary classes to remain certified by the NATA including CPR & AED
    7. Responsible for communicating with the appropriate people regarding injuries, playing status and health insurance policies as necessary.
    8. Responsible for collecting and keeping record of pre-participation physical exam records, sickle cell status documents and insurance information before clearing athletes for participation in sport.  Work with team physicians to reach full medical clearance before participation.
    9. Manage concussion protocol and return to play procedures, coordinating return by physician 
    10. Manage department operating budget, inventory, and ordering.
    11. Coordinate and supervise student workers in the Athletic Training Department. 
    12. Develop goals for and evaluate the Sports Medicine Program.
    13. Develop and/or continue to revise the Sports Medicine Handbook, Emergency Action Plan and other important documents.
    14. Represent Athletic Department on College and Conference committees.
    15. Provide updates on NCAA and NYS Health and Safety guidelines.
    16. Various other duties assigned by supervisor

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Excellent interpersonal communication, decision making and athletic training skills. Must be motivated and well organized. Knowledge of NCAA Division III regulations certified in athletic training by the BOC, licensed in New York State and certified in CPR and AED. Knowledge of NCAA Health and Safety Guidelines governing Covid-19, Concussions and other medical conditions and illness is preferred.

     

    QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

    • BOC Certified
    • Current license to practice athletic training in the State of New York (or be eligible)
    • Professional Rescuer CPR/AED
    • Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training required. Masters in Athletic Training or related field preferred
    • Instructor Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED: Community and Professional Rescuer
    • 2 years of experience in the Athletic Training field


    HOURS OF WORK:

    35-40 hours per week plus nights and weekends as needed.  11-month position from Aug 1-June 30. Some travel required (Men’s Lacrosse).
