    Starting Pay: $23.00 to $28.75 DOE

     

    Full-time, benefited position working  variable days and hours per pay period, with office at Jamestown High School.  Days of work are variableMonday - Friday with occasional Saturdays. Option to work either 10 month or 12 months out of the year.

     

    The Athletic Trainer is responsible to evaluate, treat, and prevent athletes’ injuries.  The athletic trainer will provide coverage to Jamestown Public School including:  attending practices, games, matches, and other events as needed by the facility and outlined in agreement. The athletic trainer will utilize sound knowledge base related to the population served, following the prescribed treatments of referring physician. 

    Responsibilities

    JOB FUCTIONS

    • Performs work in a manner that supports the mission and vision of JRMC.
    • Demonstrates an ability and knowledge of athletic injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and reconditioning. Uses all available resources in the assessment process and independently reassess and report significant findings to medical team and athlete.
    • Demonstrates knowledge, competency, and skill in concussion and head injury management.
    • Provides prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps and braces, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury. Monitors the effectiveness of taping, strapping, bracing, and equipment to provide optimal care for the athlete.  Utilizes all available resources to expand knowledge.
    • Utilizes appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
    • Advises coaches of flexibility, strengthening and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance. Evaluates, treats, and trains athletes how to build strength to prevent or avoid further injury.
    • Provides immediate care of athletic injuries and refer the athlete to medical facilities when necessary.
    • Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries under the direction of a referring physician per protocols.  Ability to follow plan of care established within established policies and procedures for the athlete.  Acts as a resource for physicians and physical therapists.  Will modify/progress athlete within physician guidelines, and will consult with staff on the care of the athlete in a timely manner.
    • Maintains communication with physicians.  Maintains line of communication with school administrators and coaches in the advancement of the sports medicine program.
    • Completes and maintains accurate medical records for injuries, treatment, rehabilitation, and physician referrals in appropriate manner under HIPPA guidelines.  Medical histories and correspondence will be kept on file in the athletic training room.  Provides detailed information of athlete status and report information to appropriate individuals in a timely fashion. 
    • Responsible for the maintenance and coordination of state distributed health history forms, parental permission forms, evaluation/treatment forms, physician forms and physical cards, if applicable.
    • Completes injury evaluation forms for each athlete and keep copies on file.  Forms will be compiled into a report to be provided to the school at the end of the school year.
    • Supervises and instructs athletic training student aides.  May serve as a clinical instructor and supervisors for athletic training of students from local college.
    • Counsels and advises athletes on health related issues, including nutrition, diet, exercise, and substance abuse.
    • May serve as a consultant to the middle school athletic program by advising middle school athletes in the athletic training room on an appointment basis.
    • Advises and assists the Athletic Director with the ordering of athletic training room equipment and supplies.
    • Responsible to conduct timely initial and follow-up communication with coaches, parents and physicians regarding athletic injuries, treatment and rehabilitation.
    • Completes assignments in a timely manner; answers questions; takes initiative to identify services or items that would provide value to the athlete and school.
    • Participates in the marketing of the athletic training program within the school district and the medical community through newsletters, brochures, medical contacts, etc.
    • Develops schedule to attend school sport events, including game and practice coverage, with prompt attendance. Includes coverage of athletic training room, practices and home events at school.  Acts as a resource to the school, in providing medical coverage and the advancement of the school’s athletic program, eliminating unsafe practices, and enhancing health and conditioning programs.  When multiple home events occur causing conflicts of schedule, the athletic trainer will cover the home event that demonstrates the highest injury rate as published in the literature.
    • Attendance at athletic department meetings.
    • Other reasonable events/programs, as mutually agreed upon, including educational programs, workshops, on-call service for after hour consultation, pre-season meetings and development and supervision of student athletic training programs.
    • Requires excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills. Acts and speaks respectfully regardless of the presence or absence of the athlete.  Offers praise to others for doing a good job.  Listens to and respects the opinion of others.  Intervenes when others do not act and speak respectfully.  Acts as a role model.
    • Follows safety practices.  Identifies problems and works to resolve safety issues as they occur and in accordance with policies asking for assistance when necessary. 
    • Uses own time wisely and respects the time of others.  Adheres to schedules for work and breaks and accurately reports time.  Manages productivity by prioritizing work, time and tasks, respects others’ time by arriving to meetings and work on time.  Adequate notice is given for scheduled and unscheduled absences.
    • Requires ability to work both independently and with a team. 
    • Participates in special assignments, projects or in-services. Provide team fitness evaluations.  Written results of fitness evaluations and subsequent training recommendations will be provided to appropriate coaches.  JRMC and School will mutually agree upon the dates of service and fee.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    The Athletic Trainer must be in good standing, and hold a state license to practice as an athletic trainer.  Must be certified by the Board of Certification, Inc and maintain the standards established by the National Athletic Trainers’ association included in the NATA Code of Ethics. BLS and AED certification required or must be completed within 3 months.  Will complete CPR every other year.
