    Job Summary:
    Associates work on the sales floor and at checkout, and are expected to maintain a positive representation of Damariscotta Hardware by providing an outstanding customer service experience consistent with company values. Cashiers are often the first employees customers see upon entering the store, therefore it is important that cashiers be ready to create an outstanding first impression, every time. When assigned to the sales floor, the main task of an associate is to assist customers knowledgeably and to stock and maintain the sales floor. They should be willing to continually learn and expand their knowledge of the hardware industry. Their job will include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

    Responsibilities:
    • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers, both in person and on the phone, answering their questions, helping them find merchandise, and suggesting add-on sales that will help them complete their project. This may also include processing special orders.
    • Create an inviting environment for customers by maintaining a clean and orderly sales floor.
    • Answer phones promptly and transfer customers to the correct department.
    • Be able to answer a variety of basic questions concerning merchandise and its location in the store.
    • Provide a smooth customer service experience by maintaining an efficient checkout process and orderly traffic flow through the checkout.
    • Understand and perform proper procedures for opening and closing the cash till.
    • Operate all point-of-sale equipment and process all types of transactions, including cash, credit card, debit card, and house accounts. Provide accurate sales transactions to all customers.
    • Restock shelves and put away freight with high attention to detail.
    • Assist in taking regular inventory of stock.
    • Inform customers of upcoming promotions and new products.
    • Load products into customer’s vehicles as needed.
    • Merchandise products according to prescribed planograms and help maintain signage.
    • Face and front product throughout the store throughout the day.
    • Help store staff with other tasks as needed.
    • Attend all staff meetings.
    • Adhere to all store policies and safety standards.
    • Cut keys, glass, pipe and other materials.
    • Fill propane.
    Qualifications:
    • Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
    • A working knowledge of the products contained in the store with a willingness to continue to learn.
    • Highly organized, ability to multi-task with acute attention to detail.
    • Knowledge of point-of-sale systems in order to assist with price lookup, special orders, and order entry.
    • Good math and cash register skills.
    • Able to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and management.
    • Able to stand, lift, and bend as the job requires.
    • Able to work weekends and holidays as needed.
    Goals:
    • Boost overall sales by closing the sale, and promoting the store’s loyalty program and add-on sales.
    • Continually expand knowledge of all departments in the store.
    • Become a versatile employee, able to help in other areas when needed.
    • Take a personal interest in products sold in the store and gain the knowledge to make new products and merchandising recommendations to management.
    • After enough experience, become a mentor to new employees and help them understand products and retail concepts.
