The Santa Lucia Preserve is currently recruiting for a full time or part time Stable Hand for the hours of 6.30 am - 3 pm or 8.30 am - 5 pm. Stable Hands are responsible for the care of the barn, stalls, and facilities of the Equestrian Center. Stable Hands assist with the overall care and health of the horses. The Equestrian Center is a team operation where all members of the team must engage in all levels of work to get the job done in the most cost efficient and safe manner. The full time position could include housing on property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include but are not limited to:
· Daily feeding of horses and/or cattle.
· Daily stall cleaning.
· Basic grounds maintenance and repairs.
· Assist with the care and cleanliness of all horses.
· Daily use and care of farm equipment.
· Assist with the care and cleanliness of all tack and equipment – saddles, bridles, etc.
· Monitor horses health and report changes or concerns to Equestrian Managers.
· Ensure that all operations are carried out with the safety, health and welfare of the Members, Guests, and Horses as the primary concern and focus.
· Daily handling and turnout of 25 horses to near-by pastures.
· Maintain world-class standards of service and care for horses, members, and guests.
· Administer medication and basic doctoring 0f horses.
· Blanketing and un-blanketing of horses as needed.
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
· Work cohesively with all members of the Equestrian Team.
· Various other duties; including saddling/unsaddling of horses, bathing horses, holding horses for farriers/veterinarians, building fence, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 2 years of experience and basic knowledge of with horses.
