The Worker Education and Resource Center, Inc. (WERC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization originally founded in 2002 in partnership with the Service Employees International Union, Local 721 and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.

WERC is currently looking to fill the part-time position of Casual Instructor.

Rate of Pay – $50/hr

A Background Check is required in accordance with California Fair Chance Act

• This is a part-time position involving a maximum of 20 hours per week as needed.
• We are in the Pico Union/Westlake area, adjacent to Downtown Los Angeles.
• Must be able to facilitate training during mornings and afternoons, primarily with availability between the hours of 9am-2pm in Los Angeles County
• Training is in person and candidates must be able to travel to sites within Los Angeles County to support training programs. A valid current unexpired California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required for this position.

The Casual Instructor will conduct training (on- and off-site) using both traditional and non-traditional methodologies to effectively engage adult learners, consulting with the project team on implementing project objectives, preparing and/or selecting educational materials, and assisting with developing and/or evaluating improvements to curricula and program design.

Essential Duties

• Facilitate workshops and instruct modules related to various areas of behavioral health core competencies
• Demonstrate excellent and creative teaching techniques that address different learning styles, and willing to contextualize lesson plans to the specific cohort;
• Provide feedback on curriculum based on insights from workshops
• Provide feedback on participant performance

Essential Qualifications

• Experience facilitating and/or teaching educational programs;
• Subject matter expertise in various behavioral health related areas (e.g., trauma informed care, compassion fatigue, motivational interviewing, etc.)
• Working knowledge of practices and techniques used in adult and worker education; experience with adult learners from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to prioritize projects, take initiative, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet assigned project deadlines utilizing proper time-management skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster effective teams and develop strong external relationships.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and independent problem solving.
• Ability to objectively observe, critique and evaluate written and performance data.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
• Ability to travel to sites within Los Angeles County to support training programs.

Essential Physical requirements

• The physical requirements indicated below are some examples of the physical aspects that the position must perform in conducting essential job functions.
• Persons performing service in this position will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• This type of work requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing for periods of time.
• The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to high. This is a fast-paced office and/or classroom environment that requires the ability to remain focused with a lot going on around you. The employee’s essential functions are conducted in a climate-controlled office.
