HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Maintains and repairs all refrigeration, air-conditioning, ice machines and heating systems throughout the hospital complex. Including, but not limited to: Central Cooling Plant, Air handlers, DX unit, Package units, Refrigerators, Freezers, Pneumatic Controls, Digital Controls, Exhaust fans, Unit Heaters, Steam/Hot water converters, Radiators, Fan Coil units, VAV boxes, etc. Uses protective gear while performing all duties in a safe manner.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Required Minimum Education: Vocational/Technical Degree
Specialty/Major: An accredited HVAC program
Preferred Minimum Education: Vocational/Technical Degree
Specialty/Major:3 to 5 year apprenticeship program for HVAC mechanics
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):
Required: Certified as a/an: CFC Technician by: EPA approved ( TYPE I & TYPE II or UNIVERSAL). Valid driver's license.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 2 years experience in HVAC
