HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.   • About the Role

    The HVAC Mechanic shall have a minimum of ten (10) years experience. This position is located in the Laurel, Maryland area. Shift is M-F 7:00am to 3:30pm with overtime as required.

    • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair of the following: Large chillers, steam hot water boilers, cooling towers, on campus setting with multiple buildings including lab with animals 
    • Operate and perform Preventive Maintenance of HVAC systems and subsystems
    • Maintain plant and equipment in sound operating condition
    • Perform Refrigerant recovery and recycling
    • Operate Building Energy Management System (EMS) and associated building controls  
    • Interface with building managers and other customer representatives in order to ensure client satisfaction
    • Accurately document work performed on trouble tickets or work orders
    • Place and/or remove systems, hardware and equipment as required
    • Purchase materials and supplies, and maintain inventory as required for timely work completion
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    You Should Have

    • High School degree or equivalent
    • HVAC Journeyman or Masters required
    • 10 years experience working on commercial HVAC systems
    • Completed coursework in HVAC areas
    • Must have working knowledge of 480V and below electrical systems, HVAC and plumbing system
    • Universal CFC Certification 
    • Must demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in Building Operations
    • Must be able to pass background check to obtain government site badge
    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor
    • Must be detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced work environment
    • Valid driver's license
